Eastern Kingbird

Eastern Kingbird

A summer resident seen in open fields and prairies. Up to 20 Kingbirds migrate together to South America in a group. They return to the mating ground in the springtime, where male and female defend their territory. Acting unafraid of other birds and chasing larger ones, it is perceived as having an attitude. Kingbirds become very vocal in late summer when entire families call back and forth while hunting for insects.
